LCH ADULT CLINIC

On November 12, 2019, following a joint ministerial decision by the Ministers of Health and National Defense, the Medical Research Department of 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital was recognized as Center of Expertise of Adult Patients with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH). The vision and purpose of this center is to provide high quality healthcare services to adult patients with LCH, to generate new knowledge and research data on this disease, to create ideal working conditions for healthcare professionals, as well as to integrate all recent developments into the management and treatment of the disease.

The head of the center is the endocrinologist Polizois Makras and the endocrinologist Grigorios Kaltsas. Essentially, this center is the continuation of the adult clinic that has so far been receiving the cases at the “Laiko” Hospital.

The center of expertise is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, both from the 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital and the First Educational Pathology Clinic of “Laiko Hospital”. Typical medical specialties represented at the center are: Endocrinology, Pathology, Hematology, Oncology, Pulmonology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Anatomical Pathology, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and more.

The Center of Expertise for LCH in adults utilizes all of the 251 Air Force General Hospital structures to provide appropriate healthcare to its patients. It is worth noting that the military nature of the hospital poses no restrictions on the use of the center, as the ministerial decision that established this center provides for its use by any adult suffering from LCH, regardless of his/her relationship with the Air Force.

In addition to hospitalization and inpatient treatment offered to patients where appropriate, there is a regular outpatient histiocytocis office every Friday from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. For regular office appointments you can call at +30210 7463300 both in the mornings and in the evenings.
