New Year’s Event

“A New Era in the Monitoring of Adult Patients with Histiocytosis”

On Sunday, January 19th, our Association’s Doctors & Parents successful annual gathering of was held on the topic: “A New Era in the Monitoring of Adult Patients with Histiocytosis”. During this event, the traditional New Year’s pie cutting took place. Like every year, our gathering was sponsored by the “Prime Marine” Shipping Company, which hosted us at its offices and covered the event.

Dr. Polizois Makras, Endocrinologist, Head of Department of Medical Research at the 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital, informed us of the recognition of the research department of the 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital, as the Center of Expertise of Adult Patients with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, which is the first of its kind worldwide.

At the same time the process of acquiring a disability rate and the problems that patients may face at the Disability Certification Centers were discussed.

Dr. Vassilios Papadakis of the Department of Pediatric Hematology – Oncology Children’s Hospital “Aghia Sophia”, took us on a narrative journey to Memphis, USA and spoke to us about the developments of the 35th Histocyte Society Meeting held there in November 2019 in which, as every year, our Association actively participated.

In addition, Dr. Charikleia Kelaidi, Hematologist, Department of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, Children’s Hospital “Aghia Sophia” presented us the case of “Fever in Infants with a History of Histiocytosis: One Symptom, Two diagnoses”.

Dr. Haroula Tsipou, Pediatrician, 1st Pediatric Oncology – Hematology Unit, University of Athens Children’s Hospital “Aghia Sophia”, presented us a “Rare Histiocytosis Incidence”.

Oncologist-Hematologist Dr. Maria Moschovi of the University Oncology – Hematology Unit at the 1st Pediatric Clinic, University of Athens Children’s Hospital “Aghia Sophia”, spoke to us about “Monitoring of Patients with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis and their Transition to Adult Life”.
