Dr. Gregory Stratakos, a Pneumologist at Sotiria Hospital, had a lovely idea; he suggested we get in touch with his wife mezzo soprano Elli Arvaniti in order to find a way to support the Artemis Association. Elli, who is not only a wonderful artist but also a warm and kind person, immediately offered to help pro-bono. She introduced us to conductor David Nachmia who also responded positively and henceforth they put a team as well as the time necessary to rehearse and organize a concert.
The concert took place on March 6th at the Auditorium on Sina 2-4. We greeted numerous members of our Association along with friends and members of the Greek-Swedish Association. Elli Arvaniti, Thanos Polydoras, Zeta Ksafaki, Marina Gianneli and Elena Gkatza sang over 40 songs in a performance that lasted more than two hours. A number of surprises ensued; one was the appearance of the renowned Mr. Nasos Patetsos who thrived singing bel canto songs of the 1950s. He walked onstage and sang “Ai Morena” together with Elli Arvaniti. Katerina Kourentzi also surprised the audience by joining the stage and singing some lovely songs. The sweet, romantic night filled with reminiscing tunes was truly elegant and successful.
